Carol’s Healthy Mac & Cheese Pie

This is delicious home cooking AND is actually healthy! We made this with a 9in pie pan and it feeds 8. This is a perfect accompaniment to your favorite vegetables.


  • 8 oz Whole Grain Penne Pasta
  • 8 oz Sharp Cheddar Cheese 2%–shredded
  • 12 oz  2% Low-Fat Small Curd Cottage Cheese
  • 8 oz Non-fat Plain Yogurt
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup dry whole grain bread crumbs
  • 1/8 cup Smart Balance Buttery Spread with Calcium– melted


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bring a large pot of water to a boil, add pasta, and cook until done; drain.
  2. In 9 inch pie pan, stir together pasta, shredded Cheddar cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, and Parmesan cheese. In a small bowl, mix together bread crumbs and melted butter. Sprinkle topping over macaroni mixture.
  3. Bake 30 to 35 minutes, or until top is golden.
  4. Brag to all your friends about how delicious it is!
