Stock Your Dorm Room with Good Nutrition

You can eat healthy on campus, by keeping some easily prepared food items in your dorm room. A small refrigerator, storage bins (keep things fresh and bugs out), and a toaster oven can go a long way towards fueling your body with good nutrients to keep your mind and body in good shape!   • Nuts and seeds, Trail mix (without the added candy)
  • Wonderful Pistachios (single serving pkg. in the shells, great for snacking)
  • Nut butter packages
  • I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Spray, vegetable spread
  • Low sugar cereal (KIND low sugar cereal, Nature’s Path Cereal with Flax Seed)
  • Whole grain Tortilla (La Tortilla Factory, Flatouts Whole Grain)
  • Black Beans (used to make a Tostado in the toaster over)
  • Spaghetti sauce in a bottle for making pizza in the toaster oven.
  • Whole grain pita bread or whole grain bread
  • Packaged tuna
  • Popchips (single serving bags good for snacking)
  • High protein, low sugar snack bars
  • Instant oatmeal, no added sugar
  • Potatoes, Irish and Sweet for the microwave
  • Broth based soups (ie. new H-E-B, reduced sodium soups like Yellow soup with carrots, corn & yellow bell peppers)
  • Whole grain crackers
  • Low fat popcorn

REFRIGERATOR

  • Sting cheese
  • Hard Boiled eggs
  • Avocado (for salads and to use as a spread)
  • Hummus (for dipping)
  • Turkey breast rotisserie for the market (for sandwiches, in salads, on pizza)
  • Packaged salads
  • 2 water bottles (1 to take with you & 1 to leave in the refrigerator)
  • Greek yogurts (flavored ones with low sugar, ie Siggi’s)
  • Skim milk
  • Baby carrots and other cut up vegetables
  • Fresh cut fruit

FREEZER

  • Healthy frozen meals (SPA Lean Cuisines)
  • Whole wheat waffles (Nature’s Path whole Grain Waffles)
  • Skinny Pops
  • Frozen microwave vegetables
